How to Style a Fireplace Like a Pro!

One popular rule of thumb in design is Keep It Simple! The fireplace is no different.

The fireplace provides a wonderful focal point to a room as long as it is styled well. We don’t care too much for the television to be above the mantle, but we realize that sometimes it is a must.

If you are one of the lucky ones that can house their tv at another location, then start with one large piece above your mantle…mirror, wreath, favorite art. This will act as an anchor to your design. If in question…go larger to make it more dramatic. If the mirror is just a bit too tall, just set it on the mantle and lean it on the wall. Same goes for artwork. This creates a little more casual feel to the room.

Next, grab a few medium sized items that mean a lot to you and your family. An antique heirloom, a book collection, that plate that has been handed down for generations.

Up next is to add some texture! Don’t forget about the space at the base of the fireplace (the hearth). This provides a great opportunity to really make that fireplace stand out in the room. If you need a little storage for matches, blankets, or extra wood this is the place to use a piece of storage. It could be an interesting wooden box/crate or a unique basket with a lid.

Ok, now let’s make sure that there is a cozy rug in front of the fireplace. Add color here if you need it!

Finally, but not least…everyone dreams of sitting by the fire to have a great conversation. Add simple seating such as a bench centered just in front, a pouf, or some of those extra large floor pillows!

Now you have it! You are a pro!
