WHAT STYLE OF RUG ARE YOU?

Looking for a rug that’s neutral with a touch of texture? Or do you prefer something that’s bold enough to make a statement for a design scheme? Are you adventurous enough to do what we love to do and “add a rug that’s at style odds with the rest of your space, just to throw a kink in an otherwise perfect scheme.” says Joss & Main’s Donna Garlough, author of Your Home, Your Style

Your lifestyle and the function of the rug may guide you towards your style.  If you are struggling,  see our Shop a Boards in different styles to see which style you are drawn towards.  Or you can start a “collection” of rug  images on Pinterest.  Then show your designer which ones are exciting to you. Don’t feel that you need to stick to that specific style for your entire home or space.  We mix patterns all the time to add interest to a space.  Again, reach out to a designer who enjoys this type of design concept..

This is Traditional and Timeless. We use this style in traditional spaces, modern farmhouses, farmhouse chic and even Boho.  This “oriental” or “India inspired” pattern is extremely flexible.  You can invest in an antique, worn rug or you can go to the other end of the spectrum and select a manmade synthetic.

This one is Simplistic and Neutral. We use this style in more contemporary settings, but have also used them just to add warmth and texture in a modern farmhouse. Again you can go wool which will last a lifetime, or a manmade synthetic.

This is one of the most popular styles right now. Geometric and more on the neutral side, we are attracted to this particular one because it is neutral. But can anchor a room very well. The texture using the different types of weaves adds a lot of interest.

Natural materials such as this colored jute rug can create a casual feel or even a coastal feel to a room.  Braided rugs can fall into this style as well. Sometimes we layer other rugs on top of a jute rug to make a unique impact to the space. Striped and plaid rugs work using this concept.

Another very popular rug style is the blast from the past…the SHAG! This one is actually a larger yarn, shag with an interesting pattern.  Some you will see as just solid colors and more “fury”.  These are great to collapse onto in front of a fire or a great movie. Bring the popcorn!

Hides are back as well!  Animal lovers can love these. Yes, some are hides from cows that have been butchered.  But synthetics are equally impactful!  This one is actually a synthetic.  Most of the time, your guests won’t know the difference between the two materials.  Try something different and hang them on the wall as artwork!
