Freshen the New Year with Pillows!

Throw pillows can freshen any space by switching the color pallet from one to another, adding texture to a piece of seating, changing the whole style of a space, or making a piece of furniture more comfortable. Let’s look at this last purpose for pillows. For those of us who are “vertically challenged”, a nice comfy lumbar pillow behind our back can speak volumes to the comfort of a sofa or chair. Do you tend to crawl up into your sofa or chair and sit more on your hip? Well, you will need a pillow under your elbow more than likely. Going from traditional velvets and tapestries to geometric designs can be an inexpensive way to sway your style just a bit for a new look. Geometrics can go BOHO or can go rustic like a cowboy’s blanket, or velvets with a hint of gold can bring a more elegant but still comfortable feel. Our fav is to mix patterns and textures. Just make sure the texture isn’t on a pillow you will use against your skin…unless it is the furry one shown below! We have seen people spend loads of money on wool, scratchy pillows that look awesome and rich, but don’t use them to rest your head! Ouch! We tend to gravitate towards simple tassels, cording on the edges, hides, embroidered, or patterned velvet pillows. If you have had bright bold colors for 15 years, mix it up with a few lighter/softer tones mixed in to quiet down the mood. Mixing up shapes and sizes can put fresh touches to your space as well! Mix 20 x 20” with a nice long Lumber that is 12” x 30”. Mix round and square! Be creative!
